Local legend reports that Guilford students stole the urn containing O'Kelly' ashes back in the 1930's.

O'Kelly died in 1826.  Cremation was not practiced.

Was the urn empty? Or did it perhaps contain a shovel full of dirt from O'Kelly's grave in Durham County?</description>
