O’Kelly Chapel Record Books

O’Kelly monumentDo you ever wonder who the O’Kelly monument on Elon’s campus was named after?  James O’Kelly was the founder of the Christian Church, and a prominent figure in Elon’s history.  We have original record books from the O’Kelly Chapel (located in Chatham County, NC), and now these books have been digitized and are available online.  To learn more about James O’Kelly, the O’Kelly monument, and the O’Kelly Chapel–click on the link at the bottom of this page.

Online guides to archival collections

If you are researching a particular person or family associated with Elon University or are just interested in learning more about individuals who have passed through Elon’s doors–we might have a manuscript collection that suits your needs.  Many of our manuscript collections have finding aids (or guides) to accompany them in order to make your research a bit easier.  Now these finding aids are available online!

Make a Living, Make a Difference

Graduating Seniors: Are you looking for a career that can provide years of enjoyment, challenge, and personal enrichment while empowering diverse communities of people with resources, service, and training? Then becoming a librarian might be the choice for you. The University Libraries and the Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) have received a grant from IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program to create the Academic and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Scholars Program.   The grant fund will help recruit twelve (12) ethnic minority students into a two-year Master’s degree at the library and information science program at UNCG. The graduating ACE Scholars will help increase the number of ethnic minority librarians in academic libraries in U.S. 

The selected ACE Scholars will receive:

  • Tuition and fees to attend the UNCG MLIS program, up to five semesters
  • Monthly stipend of $1,500
  • Supply fees of $500 per school year
  • Travel expenses to a national and a state conference during the program
  • Laptop computer for each student at the beginning of the program
  • Internship opportunities
  • Mentoring

Belk Library at Elon University will be one of the university libraries providing internships.
