About the Project: Coming Soon!

   Developments should proceed very rapidly on “Other Souths” in spring and summer 2008.  Following a thorough revision of the Confederate Service Records, several datasets from Carole Troxler’s transcriptions will be incorporated into the site, e.g. 1869 tax list and 1850 and 1860 agricultural censuses.  The most important new dataset will be the 1870 population census, for this will include the names of over 3,000 people of color who were considered only property in 1860.

Of special importance will also be an “Affiliations” table, which identifies residents by those groups whose causes individuals championed, e.g. the White Brotherhood, the Union League, or the Red Strings.
